The importance of black boys talking about their emotions

In the latest Ghostwriter Podcast, we were joined by the very talented Will Oklok Taylor. Will is a multi-disciplinary artist born and raised in south London. His most recent audio project titled ‘Black Boys Cry‘ explores the pressures of being a black male in modern Britain, and how black British masculinity is experienced and performed by different generations of men.

After taking therapy to better understand his emotions, Will was inspired to address how masculinity has shaped his own identity. Taking inspiration from the everyday experiences of black men in the UK and talented songwriters like Santan Dave, Kano and Jordan Rakei, Will hopes that ‘Black Boys Cry’ helps to counter stereotypes of young black men in mainstream media, while also helping people relate to each other. Listen to Will talk more on the topic in the podcast below.
