Black Sheep has been nominated for an Oscar
Black Sheep, a short documentary exploring the racial abuse of a teenager in Essex, has been nominated for best short documentary at the 2019 Oscars.
Black Sheep tells the story of Cornelius Walker, a black 11-year-old from London who moves with his family to a housing estate in Essex after the murder of schoolboy Damilola Taylor in 2000. Cornelius found himself confronting a gang of local racists upon moving to Essex and went to uncomfortable lengths to assimilate and gain their friendship. In the film, Walker looks back on the key events that shaped his life, while director Ed Perkins creates elegantly shot re-enactments of these moments to create an engaging and immersive documentary.
